What's Up Wednesday: January 2017 Edition

Hey remember that What's Up Wednesday thing I used to do. It happens at the end of every month and you link up on well, Wednesday. But around here ... when you're so excited for Demo Day you might pee your pants - you completely overlook Wednesday and forget to hit publish because you can't wait to hit publish on your Demo Day post! So, for fun - I'm sharing What's Up Wednesday on Friday ... and that's just how it's gotta be. K?! So as a refresher, on the last Wednesday (or Friday if you're me) we all link up and talk about these topics:

What We're Eating This Week: Uhm, out. Just eating out in general. We've moved into this little guest house of my parents and I don't have all of my things. I'm using pots and pans that aren't mine. A stove that I'm not used to cooking on. I've only halfway figured out our routine and grocery runs ... so I've lost my kitchen mojo. And therefore dinner often consists of handfuls of nuts and berries until one of us can't stand it and we order a pizza. Or we just go out. And way too often. Hopefully I'll get it together and stop doing that ... but I make no promises.

What I'm reminiscing about: The Bahamas.
My parents head down to their island home this time every year for a couple of months and we've been joining them during the month of February every year for about 3-4 years now. This year we took a year off, with the move, the health stuff and everything else it was just too much. They send us pictures constantly of all of our favorite places and the fun they're having and I'm thinking back on previous trips and wishing we were there too.

What I'm loving: Lipstick! Ha, is that weird? A girlfriend of mine turned me onto this lip stuff and I'm kind of into it. And that's coming from a gal that hardly ever wears anything but Vaseline on her lips! I'm hoping to gather some pictures, more info and share with ya'll a full post of my new found love. And, they won't be as creepy as this terrifying selfie. Promise.

What we've been up to: Life. Ya'll I've been telling you we're settled and to be fair, we are. But it still feels new and still has me kind of all over the place. I just got a text last night from Caroline and she was like "uhm hi, we used to be friends do you remember me!?" Haha! Guilty. There are times I'm convinced our lives are being controlled by alien puppet strings because I feel so all over the place. I was looking through pictures on my cell phone the other day and I took a picture of this. Like what? Why did I need a picture of that? I mean it's kind of funny, but was that really worth taking a picture of? Clearly I had more important things to waste my cell phone batter on than this magnet that I can assure you I did not buy. At least I don't remember buying it? Some day, some time I'll get back to normal I swear!

What I'm dreading: February 6 -- it's been three months and that means we're back with the doctors. Womp.

What I'm working on: The new house! Obviously! All things house. House house house.

What I'm excited about: The house! DEMO DAY IS SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY!!!!!!! (ahem, this post was written before Thursday obviously, but since I forgot to share - you can now read about that in the link).

What I'm watching/reading: Hubs and I just watched Inferno last night and I really liked it! It's filmed in Florence (be still my heart) so clearly it had me hook line and sinker from the beginning. I spent 6 months in Florence my sophomore year of college and hubs and I went back about four years ago and I can still smell the city if I close my eyes and think about it. But the movie was pretty good too, ha!

What I'm listening to: White Collar. I started this series right when we moved back to Louisville, and I've been watching it on my phone A LOT. Headphones in, show on. It's one of those series I don't have to be glued to the TV to know what's going on - so it's a good "on the go" show.

What I'm wearing: Heck I don't know. The weather goes from 60 degrees one day to 30 the next - so having a real "wardrobe" currently is a bit of a challenge. Jess and I were chatting yesterday about how sad we are we feel like we haven't been able to really bust out the sweaters this year. Mother Nature you're messing with my vibe. Get your act together.

What I'm doing this weekend: We've got a pretty busy weekend lined up. We've got a big party Friday, B's basketball game Saturday am, dinner plans Saturday night with some pals I can't wait to see and a little house/appliance/etc. shopping Sunday!

What I'm looking forward to next month: It's love month! A month where we get to be obnoxious with pink and red and fun arts and crafts with the littles. Extra treats and extra kisses. Sign us up! I realize Valentine's day is such a commercial holiday and totally silly (I completely agree) - but having kids and making it fun for them is really really fun. I've also got two people really close to me that are due with their littles next month (Hey MaK and Andrea!) and I'm so excited to meet them!

What else is new: I think that about covers it! Lipstick, house renos and baby snuggles! Whhoooop!

Demo Day!!

And just like that, the day I was starting to thin would never happen is FINALLY here! It's demo day on the new house and I'm totally picking up what this little meme is putting down.
We began talking about our big move back to Louisville during the month of August last year. And we closed on our new home in October. I've mentioned my low threshold of patience before, or lack there of for that matter. Soo, even though we've been working on plans and actually doing things behind the scenes - i haven't been able to see real progress, so my patience was growing thin to begin. And to me, it feels like we are really just starting, and the wait has seemed like FOREVER!

But alas, the day has come and exterior demo begins today. We will be in demo phases moving to completed framing stages through the first week of March. And they are telling us the entire renovation will take roughly 4 months to complete (although everyone we tell is like ... oh so that probably means 6-8 months ~ AHHHH stop! I NEED it to only be four!) Again, patience ain't my thing. Either way, here is a little looksie at the calendar we've been given up until framing is complete (our is much more detailed - but for sake of your time - here's the cliff notes):

  • Week 1 ~ Jan 26 + 27
    • Demo of Exterior Yard
    • Dumpster arrives on site
  • Week 2 ~ Jan 30 - Feb 3
    • Demo of Interior
    • Jan 30 - Excavation of addition begins
    • Feb 1 - Foundation is poured
  • Week 3 ~ Feb 6 - Feb 10
    • Framing of Interior and Exterior
    • Insulation, gravel, etc for Foundation
  • Week 4-6 ~ Feb 13 - March 3
    • Framing of Interior and Exterior complete
I'm having some serious chats with the weather gods that they keep this month as mild as the last, so we don't have any big delays. But, my winter loving heart is a bit torn, because I also want some fun snow days for the kids. Oh, my first world problems are big today folks.

Anywhoodles, I shared the photos of the new house the way we saw it and purchased it. And obviously, since then the previous owners have moved out, we've spent countless hours in the house both by ourselves, with family, with contractors, with friends, heck we were even crazy enough to celebrate Lainey's First Birthday at the house! And like I mentioned when I first shared the photos of the new house, I wanted to get some shots of the space completely empty so we could get some great before and after photos.

So, it seems fitting that on demo day I share the house - empty and ready for it's new beginning.

First Floor ~ Pre-Renovations

Kitchen/Pantry/Great Room addition (will be added off the back of that large window and current living room wall) ~ BEFORE

Kitchen/Dining/Hostess + Coffee Bar/Entry/Great Room addition ~ BEFORE

Laundry/Craft Room ~ BEFORE
Laundry/Mudroom ~ BEFORE

Home Office ~ BEFORE

Entry Foyer ~ BEFORE

Master Bedroom/Bath and Closet ~ BEFORE

Second Floor ~ Pre-Renovations

Upstairs + Bonus Room ~ BEFORE

 Lainey's Bedroom ~ BEFORE

Lainey's Bathroom + Closet ~ BEFORE
Guest Bedroom ~ BEFORE
Bennett's Bedroom + Bath ~ BEFORE

And there you have it folks! There is another bathroom (guest bath) that mirrors Bennett's that will also be updated that I apparently forgot to take a picture of - whoops! But, that's the house - the last time we'll ever (hopefully) be staring at pink and hunter green carpet and before we make it our own! So excited for this journey and can't wait to share some photos with ya'll once we're stripped to the studs!

My little sidekick and I have been working hard to get selections made, so when the contractors tell us they are ready we can be sure we are not the source of any delays. She loves coming to meetings with me because it means she gets extra suckers to keep her occupied.
But apparently she doesn't think it's nearly as much as I do ... because what I thought was a super exciting cabinet design appointment ... Lainey was actually so bored she fell asleep. Ha!

Gah, I love her even more than I love the fact that today is Demo Day (and that's A LOT!). Whew okay, Until then, I'll be the crazy lady taking photos of the dumpster because that sounds like a good time :)  Yayy for demo day! See yaaaaa real soon.

Driods, Declarations, and Drapes

It was another big week around here ... not that the title of this post would ever lead you to believe that, but it was. We began the week with a bang, and little mister passed his first karate test and earned his white belt! He had to remember seven words "Yes Sir, No Sir, Yes Ma'am, No Ma'am, Please, Thank You, and You're Welcome" and recite them all his own and he passed with flying colors!
Lainey is currently cutting nearly every tooth in her little mouth and therefore has been a real peach when it comes to sleeping. Joy! Hubs and I planned a movie night and once we got the kids to bed he ran to the movie theater to get some popcorn to-go. Don't knock it til' you try it. It is TOTALLY worth it. But, little miss had other plans and woke up the moment he returned home. And she was pleasantly surprised to find one of her favorite snacks in the living room.
 Girl can CRUSH some popcorn.
The next morning this little man woke up, put on my glasses and told me he was ready to go somewhere.
But then he spied the leftover popcorn bucket and decided to polish it off before setting foot outside the house. Good thinking kid.
And of course, baby sister was not going to miss out on a snack, regardless of how much she had consumed the night before.
And then we set out for a fun filled day!

And ended with our droid. Bennett watched Star Wars for the first time right before Christmas (in hindsight he was probably too young because it was certainly a little violent) and he has become OBSESSED. He only makes it about 1/2 of the way through, but he loves the first half and comments on everything Star Wars we see ALWAYS.
We have had a ton of unseasonably warm days and therefore we've been taking lots of walks and bike rides. We managed to pack Bennett's bike but had forgotten his helmet (and there are some big hills he heads down wayyy fast) so I took him to Target and let him pick out a new helmet. Insert BB-8, the droid from The Force Awakens and Bennett's new alias. Which is mildly ironic because his PaPaw has called him BB since before he was even born. But, it's too cute and he loves to wear it everywhere - so we let it happen because it makes us all smile. Let them be little!
Little bit joined me at the dentist this week and that made for quite an interesting appointment. Good thing she's cute.
And afterward we toured what will likely be Bubby's school in a year or two. I could talk a lot on this topic, but I'll spare you all my details because I have a brain block when it comes to articulating what I'm trying to communicate. We were a bit early, so we lunched in the car. Man, I'm gonna miss my little sidekicks when they go to real school one day.
We headed to a farewell dinner for Uncle Max and of course our droid, BB-8, attended as well.
He's headed back to NYU for his final semester of Film School before heading off the Hollywood to make the big bucks. Lainey is in love.
Two of my favorites right here folks.
 And there's another.
We made a few mall trips to get an outfit together for the wedding we had Friday, and BB-8 joined us there as well.
We made our way to a music class with one of my long-time girlfriends and her twin boys.
Bennett created his own "movie fee-ater" in his room and "no grills (girls) are allowed".
My cousin, Jordan, and his fiance, Rebecca, (bottom left -front row) were tying the knot Friday, so she invited a bunch of ladies to have some dinner before the big day.
Hubs and I attended the UL game after that dinner too, but I failed to snag a pic. And then we made it to Friday ... and it was time for #HappilyEverDoepke

My aunt gave the most fabulous speech she wrote about love and God's purposefulness of his creation of man and woman. He created man from the dirt, and woman from man's bone - and chose dirt all with such deliberate intent ... because life and love are messy. And you have to find your own happiness, love and life in the dirt. She did a heck of a lot better job than my Cliff Notes I just shared with you, but it resonated with me and I loved it.
It was a great reflection, and fabulous way to view His creation. She's got a way with words my friends.
And I got to snuggle this sweet thing! MaKenzie is due with her fifth baby on February 5 and still managed to make it all the way down to celebrate! She is a dream.
 Family lady love.
Eeeeek!! So excited for them. They have four girls and have decided not to find out the sex of this baby. I'm thinking boy boy boy - all BOY!
Reception was a dinner at one of my favorite places, Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse.

And it was family and fun and lots of food!

Saturday morning basketball came EARLY. It was team picture day and due to these behind the scenes shots I snapped, Bennett's are going to turn out great - HA!

After the game, we played Humpty Dumpty on the walk to the car .. because well that's par for the course.
And then the littlest (who was strange and pukey - unsure if it was food or something she ate) jumped on board the Droid wagon. This helmet is taking over our house!

And we ended the weekend with a little Jesus in the morning, followed by taking down all of the drapes at the new house so we can try to make a little money off of them.
Demo is set to begin this week and we are all SO EXCITED. Get us into the house alreaddyyyyyy.
We wrapped with another family walk and we're refreshed and ready for a new week!
Happy Monday gang ~ and cheers from my coffee mug to yours.
