What's Up Wednesday: September

And just like that, we're back for another rendition of 'What's Up Wednesday' ... to see last month's post click here. How in the world has an entire month already passed?! Good grief!

Here's what's happening around here ...

What we're eating this week ... fruits, veggies + Oreos. Halloween Oreos to be exact. But seriously. I had my doc appointment Monday and was nicely informed by the nurse that I'd packed on six pounds in two weeks ... so she "kindly" reminded me how easy it was to gain weight these last couple weeks of pregnancy and therefore I'm trying to cut down on indulging ... but I somehow think it's okay after I've eaten fruits and veggies! Ha!  I attribute the weight gain to the Great American Cookie Cake I demanded for my birthday. I may or may not have eaten the entire thing over the course of the week.

What I'm reminiscing about ... weekend's away with my gal pals. All of my friends are off jet setting to New Orleans this weekend to bachelorette it up on Bourbon Street with our bride to be, Baili, while I'm 8 months pregnant at home with not even a glass of wine in sight. While it's totally worth it and I can't wait to meet our little "moon" I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss my gal pals and could really use some time away with them. Have one for me gals :) I love ya!

What I'm loving ... Aden + Anais bamboo swaddles. Holy soft. I was obsessed with their regular ones when B was born - and this time around Penny bought me a pack of these numbers and Oh. Em. Gee. ya'll! They are heaven! Why on earth do they not make these for adults?! I can't wait until I know if Moon is a boy or a girl to get another pack a bit more gender specific!

What we've been up to ... we made our final visit home before our little moon arrives last weekend! While the time is always too short and we had to split who went where and what we were able to squeeze in, it was nice to be able to head home one last time as a family of three. We probably won't be back home until the Holidays and as a family of FOUR! Ohhhh myyy goodness I can't even comprehend it! And guys, I got to meet this little guy. Charlies {Charlie} Christopher. He is PERFECT! And his momma looks just as beautiful now as she did when we showered the little prince. And daddy is doing great too!

What I'm dreading ... our upcoming hospital stay. While I love all of the sweet nurses that are so great during those first days of adding a new member to your family ... last time around I wasn't so lucky with a swift recovery and had some bad reactions to surgical tape from the procedure. So I'm all nervous and antsy and filled with anxiety knowing the flip side to this second c-section. But ohhh that sweet baby smell ... that makes it all worth it! (this is Baby B not even an entire day old!)

What I'm working on ... Fireplace demo starts this week! EEEEEEK! We're tearing off the original tile + mantle and adding a stone overlay + an original wooden mantle. I'm so excited! It'll look a lot different ... but here is sort of the idea.

What I'm excited about ... being a mama to moon! We're in the homestretch and I'm starting to get really excited. The nursery is coming together, we've finalized some details, etc. and we're almost ready! Ahhh what will he or she be?! What will they look like?! What will be their temperament?! So much excitement awaits!

What I'm watching/reading ... Still on the Mad Men kick from last month. With all of these season premieres we just can't seem to finish it!  That and I can't seem to keep my eyes open long enough to finish more than one episode :) gotta love the third trimester sleepys! But ya'll Nashville, Scandal + How to Get Away with Murder are BACK!!! All of my favorites + then some (we watched the Blood and Oil + Quantico premier's on Sunday and have decided to give them a go). I'm so jazzed to have a kid being born around football season and good TV. With Bennett it was summer so it was either movies or soap opera's - this time around I can't wait to cozy up to a good show! Because we're going to have so much downtime! Hahahahahaha. Can you tell I'm delirious?!

What I'm listening to ... conference calls about everything under the sun. I'm about to step out on Maternity leave, so I'm working diligently to try and wrap up and pre-plan for things while I'm out. Which means I'm on the phone 24/7 to get things in order!

What I'm wearing ... anything that fits! Mostly lounge-y pants and one of Shane's t-shirts while I'm in the house and still rocking my good ole maternity dry fit tank and yoga crops when I head out. OCCASIONALLY I'll throw on jeans and a tee. Bottom line - my life falls into one of these three averages currently. So I'm not too worried about clothes.

What I'm doing this weekend ... this weekend is actually pretty busy with some fall festivals that Hubby is working, along with a family play date Saturday. And next weekend we have some fun visitors we're really looking forward too + a senior session I can't wait to shoot! I promise to share details because it'll be a good one!

What I'm looking forward to next month ... BABY MOON! BABY MOON! BABY MOON! Unless little bit decides to come early we'll have him or her in our arms on November 9th! EEk! Squeal!

What else is new ... I'm gonna work this month on stocking the freezer for when Little Moon arrives. Last time around I had the AMAZINGLY fabulous gift of great family and friends to ensure our bellies stayed full during those first few weeks adjusting to new life, but this time we moved away from all of that (what were we thinking?!?!). So, while I've got some extra time I'm going to make a few extra casseroles and what not to pop in the freezer so I don't have to eat spaghetti every night for two weeks because that's all hubby is capable of producing in the kitchen :) Although I will say his lukewarm noodles and microwaved sauce is one to be reckoned with! hehe :) only teasing. Do ya'll have any great recipes I should try?

What I am thankful for ... I added this one to my list this week because my family had a BIG scare over the weekend. My Uncle Dan, MaKenzie's father, had a heart attack Thursday while playing basketball at their local rec center. She can say it better than I ever could - so here is the excerpt from her Facebook page:
"This photo was taken two days before, in this exact place, where dad had what's called a "sudden cardiac death" on the basketball court Thursday afternoon. He was revived by the quick-acting Blue Ash rec staff and the grace of our God, we are forever grateful to his basketball buddies and the two women who performed CPR and used the defibrillator. Dad had triple bypass surgery yesterday afternoon and is recovering in the ICU as I type this. THANK YOU to the countless friends and family who have helped us, loved us and reached out in the last 48 hours. Thanks be to God for the miracle He performed in giving us more time on this earth with our Papa."

An ever prominent reminder that tomorrow is not promised and as my Uncle Dan wisely said in his recovery room a few days ago, "we may have extended life, but we all have an expiration date." Be good to one another and love unconditionally. Support one another and be accepting of their differences. And be thankful for the time you have, not always expecting and wanting more. Our God has a plan greater than our own. Thank you for giving us more time with my uncle. Please continue to lift their family up in prayer as they will need it during a long recovery.

And that's it for me and this month's What's Up Wednesday! Just think, next month I'll be having a baby in only four days! Holy moly.

This. All of this.

I saw this today. It was all I needed and the epitome of the truth. I laughed harder than I probably should have. So perfect. Have a great Monday!

Confessional Friday: Life Lately + Sugar Intervention

It's with a heavy heart that I write a Confessional Friday post. Leslie at A Blonde Ambition was the first to introduce me to the idea and was always so amazingly full of life.  I loved linking up with her and hearing about her life. Leslie passed away of a heart condition back in July, leaving behind her husband and two beautiful young girls. Times like this make you stop and realize how short life really is and life can stop in a moment. Before I settle into the daily nonsense that is BlueDaisy in Music City I'd like to pass along that if you'd like to help the Sisti's and their two young girls they have a donation fund here.

So, what's been going on around here lately?  Well, if you want the short and sweet version it's basically just that: short and sweet. Short in that it's all things small and baby. Sweet in that I have zero control on what I am eating and 80% of it is sweet. So if you want to stop reading now ... you've got the gist :)

I confess ... It's all things baby round here. I'm nesting SO much more this pregnancy than last time around. Maybe that's because I actually am a mother now?  Maybe it's because we're in a new place. Maybe it means this baby is a girl? Who knows?! But between the house projects, the purchases (shout out to GoGo for being the BEST mother, mother-in-law + grandma to help us get all of our final items off the to-do list and actually moving ... I seriously doubt if it weren't for her they would ever be completed + an another shout out to MaKenzie for taking on a MAJOR project and keeping the biggest secret ever!  We've kept this tarp on the front door step this week so that all arrivals can be sifted through to ensure there is nothing about gender that may slip through the mail carriers - our mailman and UPS man must think we are nutso!), the more "free-time" now that B is in school two days a week, Shane may kill me if this baby doesn't arrive to put my restless nesting to an end. Ha!
Can't wait to meet this sweet profile and find out if baby moon is a boy or a girl in just a short 8 weeks!
I confess ... As our life seems to get crazier and crazier my heart goes out to our first baby, Maggie. Bless her heart. Bennett's arrival was a doozy and did a serious number on life altering changes in her world. And with this second one ... oh my. We love you girl!
I confess ... on our ride to and from Louisville we pass 'Dinosaur World' and there is a T-rex on the side of the road. Therefore, my two year old naturally thinks it is TOTALLY a normal thing to find dinosaurs while we're driving. On our trips in the car (even just up to the grocery or something) we always have to be on the lookout for dinosaurs. It's the most precious thing ever and I love the innocence in his thought process that is perfectly okay to think we may just have a random Jurassic Park encounter while we're headed to the YMCA. Ahhh to be a kid again :)
I confess ... my dad always says I was the Queen of stealing his shoes and wearing them around the house. And it appears we've got another little shoe lover on our hands. From Daddy's shoes to mommy's rain boots ... we can never find our shoes around here!
I confess ... I am LOVING this fall weather. We've been outside, at the park, or walking every night we can and I never want it to end. Evening picnics all day every day!
I confess ... 8 months of pregnancy is catching up to me. Having a toddler that loves sweets and fried food is a bad combination because I have lost all will power. Bye bye apple, hello milkshake and fries!
I confess ... speaking of that sweet tooth, my husband texted our financial advisor last week telling him that I wouldn't stop talking about the Christmas cake he sends us every year. Annnnnd well, embarrassingly enough ... He sent me one. *face palm* Le sigh. Thanks Brad! And side note, if ya'll need something to send to someone - send them a 7-Layer Caramel Cake from Caroline's - HOLY AMAZING.
I confess ... back to baby - Penny and I finalized the shades + drapes for the nursery and we're going with these beauties (on the left) with a blackout lining behind them and something like the picture below for the drapes - LOVE those little tassels. Ohhh boy, pretty pretty!

I confess ... the more I nest, the more my toddler proves it doesn't matter what I do - this home has children in it. Hello and goodbye brand new lamp that lovingly completed our sitting room. Hello and goodbye newly vacuumed floor and cleaned dining room table. Hello and goodbye any toilet paper that neatly hangs in our bathrooms.  Hello my sweet two year old ;)

I confess ... our date nights look a little different these days but we love it! We went to dinner for our Anniversary last weekend and we were trying to snap a pic of us all gussied up (which is RARE these days) and little man insisted he jump in the middle. And he was welcomed. We wouldn't have it any other way. It's just not complete without him (and the belly) anymore!
I confess ... our little man has been asking to go to the Zoo for weeks now. We've been reading him a zoo book and it's all he can talk about. So, I was able to carve out a few hours this week and make sure he got to "see da aminals mommy" and find out "what dat make" (what noise does that animal make)!  And of course, not 5 minutes in little man got so excited to see the elephants we got a big ole boo boo on both knees and elbows and he informed me he "needed to go to the hospital." Bless his sweet heart. But luckily with a few kisses + some apple juice we were all healed and ready to take on the day.
And feeding the turtles made it much better ;)
I confess ... this sweets thing is really an issue y'all. And this 100 layer donut from Five Daughter's Bakery is certainly NOT helping. I can't stop thinking about it. And thanks to Laura who mentioned to me "I like that you're trying to justify it with a green drink" - I should note it's actually not as green as it may appear. It's actually just a flavored lemonade ... sooo just bring on the sugar. Good grief. Intervention may be necessary.
I confess ... Tee-Ball is in full swing and I owe ya'll a full on recap. Let me tell you a couple of things: 1) two year olds at any kind of sport practice might be the cutest thing on earth. 2) Bennett is getting the hang of it and really has learned something! 3) His daddy is DETERMINED to make him a sports all-star and it cracks me up -- and I love it at the same time. They're warming up and doing stretches in the picture below.
I confess ... the onset of fall has me busting out all of my gear and I can't wait to share some sessions with ya'll son! #TeamCanon
I confess ... I enter into the last year of my twenties TOMORROW! HBD to me! HOWWWWWW is this possible?! I should also confess I've been very specific and requested a special cake. High maintenance .... heyyyyyy!

Have a good weekend everybody!

Crafty Cubbies + Hubbies

It's crazy to think we've been in our new home in Nashville, TN for nearly six months now!  Time is FLYING by. It's taken us some time, but I can truly say we are much more settled and life is moving along just dandy. Now that the majority of our things are unpacked and have been arranged and rearranged a couple of times - we're getting used to the new digs. Which means it's certainly time to take on projects (my husband is rolling his eyes right now I'm sure)!

I love our home, don't get me wrong. But I can't help it - part of my nature is to fix/update/personalize things and this new construction needs a little bit of love around the edges to give her some character. Our first major project we decided to tackle was adding some cubby/chalkboard/hooks in the entry way and I am SOO pleased with how it turned out.

Shay, from Mix and Match Mama, was my inspiration behind the project. We've got a narrow hallway coming in from the garage, but I was determined to make it so much more than that. I saw her picture and thought HA! exxxxactly what I'm looking for!  It provides the illusion of a full on entry way with cubbies, benches, etc. - while being more "space" friendly.
For the record, if we every decide to build one day - something like these are on my list of MUST HAVES! It's a non-negotiable.

But, for the meantime I am super proud of mine and hubby's handywork. So - here'e the big reveal!

Here's our blankslate hallway:
Enter boards and tools - we purchased the pre-primed boards from Home Depot and had them make the cuts.
And here's the "Okay, we've measured it 200 times, let's start. Hold your breath and hope we don't mess up!"

I was way more excited than I ever should have been when I found three prong hooks vs. just your normal two.
Chalkboard paint ... literally that stuff is the coolest ever. Don't mind the t-shirt that clearly no longer fits :)

Now time to putty those holes so we can start to paint! It's almost finished! (we actually were laughing and having fun - apparently I'm just very serious + focused while I work! ha!)
I promise he didn't roll up his shirt and flex to pose for this picture. He always looks like that. wink wink.
Eeeeek!Just added a coat of paint (same color as the trim) to the boards and we're there!
Wahhhoooo! $120 and two days later and we've got ourselves some fancy new storage in the entry way!
So proud!
My final to-do's: Meeting with the carpet company Friday to get a custom runner made that fits the hallway a little better and I'm on the hunt for an awesome painting/saying/drawing etc. to adorn the top of the storage wall to add a little love and color. I love it when a plan comes together!

Our next big undertaking? We're putting stone on our fireplace and replacing the current tile. We're getting help on this job ... but I cannot WAIT! Happy hump day!
