Sweet Summertime

For all of my country music fans out there, I've had Kenny Chesney's "Sweet Summertime" lyrics stuck in my head all week and I am not the least bit upset about it! Summertime is finally here ya'll and we've certainly kicked it off!

Bennett's teachers had an end of the year birthday celebration for all of the kiddos that have a summer birthday - I took him to the store and let him pick out his classes birthday treat. He chose a hodge podge of character rings that adorned multi colored cupcakes, star wars plates, gold napkins, the ugliest cups of all, and stretchy monster finger puppets as a souvenir. I love his three year old weirdness :)
And of course little sister accompanied me to school to pass out part treats! His teacher sent this sweet picture home with him, and it made my heart melt. I'm so thankful I'm able to spend these days with them. I know they likely won't remember a lot of it, but I sure will.
We're starting to enter the "that's mine!", "mommy, Lainey hit me", "Hey I wanted that!" etc. phase and that makes me crazy. Having to constantly remind both them AND myself this is a small deal, not a big deal. But in the midst of our days there is also a lot of love ... and the spontaneous sweetness of siblings that makes me absolutely melt.
We've been checking on the house (almost daily) now, because there is a beehive of activity. I'm nervous if I don't show up the wrong tile will end up in the wrong room or something, so we make frequent stops. And while I'm chatting with our contractors things like this happen ... and don't be fooled ... she didn't eat a bag of powdered donuts. She licked the walls and that's drywall dust. :)
We've had fun nights with our cousin friends!
We spend as much time outside as possible. And for little Lou that means, we collect every rock known to man.

Hopefully, we've finally said farewell to all of that spring rain.

We've played ... HARD! Which when I'm lucky .. means we nap ... HARD!
And we headed to one of our favorite places, Lake Cumberland, to celebrate the long Memorial Day Weekend!
Where we rest, snuggle, eat, and PLAY!

The lake takes it out of you! I mean falling asleep with candy in your mouth. HA!

Snuggles :)

This was also a HUGE weekend for our littles because they tubed for the first time (with daddy of course). They were such little dare devils and I LOVED it! I grew up on that lake, and watching them get a taste of my childhood made me have all the feels. Can't wait for all of the summer fun we'll have both this year and years to come. SO. MUCH. FUN.

And we had night time arm wrestling matches with our parents for good measure ... I beat my mom fair and square, regardless of what she tells you.

And that's it folks, we're off into summer full of staying up late, playing so hard all day to make sure our feet are dirty enough to earn our showers at night, and sleeping in and waking up with hair that looks like this just to do it all over again.
Sweet Summertime!

Drywall Dreams and Dirt

Welp, it's happened. I've finally hit the end of my rope and I'm over it. I'm so ready to move in to the new house I can't see straight. I had a minor melt down last week, and since then I'm doing a little better ... but gahhhh. Anyone that has been through a renovation or home building project knows the struggle, but ya'll it is realllllll. For anyone that's been living under a BlueDaisy rock ... here's a look back on the project:
I know you didn't come here today to listen to me whine ... so I'll move on and share the good parts with you. We've got drywall! We're getting some primer. And I was totally able to see all of the rooms and imagine them completely finished a few months ago when the final framing was complete. However, I realize from photos that can be a bit of a challenge ... and if you're not accustom to new builds/renos that can be hard to wrap your head around. With drywall though, there is no longer a question ... the rooms are up and you can really see the layout! YippppEEEEE!
The addition: Our new great room/living room
 The kitchen/dining room
 Lainey's Room
 She's excited!
And she photobombed Bennett's room too :)
Here's a look at the new doors. I had such a hard time making a design decision on the door styles, but I'm super happy with my choice now that some of them are in!
Here was the big snaffoo that sent me into a tailspin. See that there window? Yea, well they had to cut through the exterior brick to place it and seeing as how that is the wall that will house the his and hers master bath vanities -- that match on either side -- that will be interesting right? The window is supposed to be centered on the wall directly in the middle of the vanities, you may remember the cabinet designs look a little something like this ... sooo this lil mama lost it. No worries, it's since been remedied, and the window will indeed be centered. So, we can all take a collective deep breath and move forward.
And, the exterior of the house is almost complete too (in that it's been put on) ... still have paint it and place gutters ... but progress is progress.
And my lucky readers ... YOU get to help us decide on the exterior finish. The trim will be painted white (SW 7103 Whitetail) as you can see sampled near siding colors 4 and 8. Cast your vote and let us know what you think!

Top Row ~ left to right

  1. SW 7075 Web Gray (farthest from window trim)
  2. SW 7604 Smoky Blue
  3. SW 6256 Serious Gray
  4. SW 7669 Summit Gray (closest to window trim)
Bottom Row ~ left to right

     5. SW 7074 Software (farthest from window trim)
     6. SW 6251 Outerspace
     7. SW 7068 Grizzle Gray
     8. SW 6249 Storm Cloud (closest to window trim)

While hubs and I were painting sample colors on the wall, the kiddos were busying themselves in the dirt, because kids. Shane and I were totally immersed in making a decision (that we just couldn't seem to do) and kind of forgot to keep an eye on the littles since they were right at our feet. When we finally did look down, we found them doing this ....
Taking handfuls of dirt and stashing them in their shirts. Oh vey. Shane and I started cracking up (notice the giant pouch of dirt in Lainey's romper) and the kids thought they were soooo funny. Ohh to be a kid again.

Needless to say, bath time called for extra rounds of scrubbing.
But the giggles were totally worth it. And there you have it gang. We're getting dangerously close, and we are READY!
